Community Forum - Sellicks Beach Shelter and Redevelopment

Project status: Planning
Location: Cliff top carpark, Esplanade, Sellicks Beach (corner Esplanade and Francis Street)

Description

The cliff top shelter was severely damaged during the storms in late 2016 and now requires demolition. A number of local residents have also complained about antisocial behaviour at the site. Council plans to demolish the shelter and is keen to hear from residents how best to improve the area.

The site has cultural and historical significance, including the Tjibruki/Tjirbruke Dreaming Track stone marker and commemorative plaques and art work. It is important that any improvements to the area are complementary to this important local and cultural history.

Next steps

Thank you to everyone who attended the community forum, held on Thursday 15 February and provided feedback via other avenues.

We have collated all the ideas and created a summary of each of the three questions.

The outcomes have identified the community’s priorities as being: build a new shelter, table, seating, retention of artwork, plaques and landscaping.

Council will now seek the development of concept designs based on these outcomes and to return to the community for feedback.
