Coast and marine

Our regions stunning coastline is 31km long and stretches from Sellicks Beach in the south to Lonsdale in the north.  It has a huge influence on our way of life, has featured in many movies and is where many of us live and play.

What we do on land directly affects the health of our marine environment. In order to manage, understand and protect our coastal and marine environments we work in partnership with many other organisations including State Government Departments and community groups. Everyone is responsible for the protection of this important natural asset.

In March 2015, a 9km length of coast between Christies Beach and Moana was crowned the 3rd surf reserve in South Australia.  We work closely with the Mid Coast Surfing Reserve to educate the community on caring for our natural environment.

In March 2010 South Port Noarlunga was named Australia’s Cleanest Beach which celebrates local sustainability achievements of our communities.
